Swing The Club Like A Pro

Your golf scores will improve, only when you learn to master your swing. The perfect swing needs power and control. But, in order to swing like a Pro, you need to pay heed to the following words of advice. Here are some tips on how to swing the club like a Pro.

Stance: Stand around 5 inches away from the ball and ensure that the ball is roughly at the center of your feet. Your feet should be flat on the ground and should be in line with your shoulders. Keep your knees bent slightly and your arms and back straight, but relaxed. Lean forward with your back still straight and place your club behind the golf ball.

Gripping the club: The correct grip will make all the difference and will also determine, whether you hit the ball squarely or slice it. Hold the club firmly with your fingers wrapped tightly around the shaft. Your left thumb should form a "V" with your fingers and should be pressed firmly against the shaft of the club. Your right hand can either slightly overlap over your left hand or can be placed below the left hand [if you are right-handed]. You can try out different grips, until you find the right grip that does not put a strain on your wrists and enables you to make adjustments to your swing.

Starting the backswing: Your backswing will take the club away from the ball. During your backswing, your hips and your chest will have to be rotated towards the right side and your back arm elbow should bend by around 90 degrees, while your front arm elbow remains straight. Your body weight should be shifted towards your right knee, so that you can get maximum momentum during the downswing.

The explosive downswing: If your stance and your backswing have been properly executed, then you will be ready for your downswing. Once your club is roughly parallel to the ground on your backswing, then you need to bring it back with speed. You should shift your bodyweight back from the right foot to the left and also to the front. Twist your chest and hips back towards the left, while maintaining a firm grip on the shaft of the club. Ensure that your shoulders are parallel to the ball, when you strike it. Direct all your energy towards the head of the club and ensure that the ball is hit squarely. Maintain the correct angle of the club head during the downswing, so that the ball is not sent flying in an unintended direction.

Following it through: Your club should continue on the upward journey, even after hitting the ball. This will eliminate sudden or jerky stops and also provide better control over the distance that you want the ball to travel. Your club should be able to travel over the height of your left shoulder, as you continue with your swing. You can now relax and slowly lower the club to a vertical position.

Additional tips: You could use an SLR camera when you take continuous shots of your swing and then show it to golf coach. An SLR camera uses more frames per second than a regular or video camera and can thus offer the coach a chance to examine your swing in detail and offer invaluable tips to improve your swing.

The perfect swing will require lots of practice and a fluid motion. Try out various golf clubs, in order to compare your shots. But, remember that the right swing is a combination of power and control. The above tips will soon have you swinging the club like a seasoned Pro.
